General Motors is expanding the role of its electric vehicles beyond driving, introducing support through GM Energy and a new battery chemistry aimed at energy storage, according to Ars Technica. Vehicle-to-grid, or V2G, is a form of bidirectional charging that lets an EV battery discharge power back into the electrical grid when needed, rather than only drawing power from it. The U.S. Department of Energy says bidirectional vehicles can also support buildings through vehicle-to-building charging and can serve as mobile storage for backup power or demand management.
