Adam Mosseri testifies in trial over Meta's alleged teen addiction tactics on Instagram and Facebook

Instagram head Adam Mosseri testified in a federal trial in Oakland over allegations from 29 states that Meta designed Instagram and Facebook to keep children and teens hooked and misled the public about the platforms’ safety. Mosseri said the company launched the “Take a Break” feature but did not make it the default for teenagers until September 2024, and he noted that fewer than 1% of teens used it before that change. The case is one of the biggest legal tests yet of how social media affects young users and could force Meta to change product features and face major damages.
