Anthropic offers U.S. teachers free Claude AI access for lesson planning and instruction
Anthropic launched Claude for Teachers on July 14, 2026, offering verified K-12 educators in the United States free access to premium AI capabilities for a full year to streamline lesson planning, personalize instruction, and reduce administrative burdens. The tool integrates with Learning Commons to align lesson plans with academic standards across all 50 states and includes features for differentiation that adapt material for students with varying readiness levels or learning needs. Strong privacy protections are central to the program, including FERPA compliance, a dedicated K-12 data processing addendum, and a guarantee that teacher conversation data will not be used for model training, a standard developed in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers. While the offer targets individual teachers now, a separate version for schools and districts is expected soon, and the tool remains restricted to adults aged 18 and over, excluding direct student access.
