Google AI Overviews provide incorrect information in 10 percent of search queries
Google's AI Overviews, the company's new artificial intelligence-powered answer system that appears prominently above traditional search results, is generating incorrect information at an alarming rate. According to recent analysis by The New York Times in collaboration with AI startup Oumi, the system answers questions correctly approximately 90 percent of the time—meaning roughly 1 in 10 responses contains false information. At Google's scale, this translates to hundreds of thousands of erroneous answers distributed every minute, according to reporting from Ars Technica.
