Google Cloud introduces Gemini agent for work across apps

Google Cloud has introduced a Gemini agent meant to do more than answer questions: staff can hand it an outcome—prepare a report, analyze operations data, draft materials, or write code—and it is designed to plan the steps, use connected tools, and return completed work. Instead of losing the thread each time an employee switches apps, it carries the same memory, skills, and controls through Workspace services such as Gmail, Docs, and Sheets. Google says the agent is tied to enterprise identity and permission systems, which matters because a tool acting across company systems must be limited to the data and actions it is authorized to use. The launch is Google’s bid to make AI less of a chat window and more of a governed digital worker, though its value will depend on how reliably it handles real assignments.
