Google makes some AI search summaries expand automatically

Google is changing some Search pages so its AI Overviews open into a full response without requiring a click on “Show more,” pushing the familiar list of links farther down. An AI Overview is Google’s AI-generated snapshot of an answer, with links intended to help people explore the underlying web. Google says its systems will expand the summary only for queries where that format seems most useful, and says testing found that people found Search more helpful and explored follow-up questions more deeply. The shift makes ordinary Search feel more like an answer-first product: users get a fuller response sooner, while websites have to compete for attention below a larger Google-produced layer.
