OpenAI brings ChatGPT deeper into Wall Street’s daily work
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a version of its workplace chatbot designed for investment-banking and equity-research teams. Rather than making employees shuttle between a general AI tool and their data terminals, it combines GPT-6 Astra with built-in financial datasets and connections to subscriptions their firm already holds. Morgan Stanley and Evercore helped shape the initial workflows, including company research, financial models and client presentations. The important shift is not simply faster writing: OpenAI is trying to put AI inside work where every number needs a trail back to its source, with centralized access and governance controls meant for regulated institutions. Its early focus is analyst work, so it could reduce the manual assembly behind a deal pitch or research note—but firms will still need to judge the output and control which data employees can use.
