Qatar launches domestic investment platform alongside a $60 billion pipeline
Qatar has launched Doha Investment, a dedicated platform to manage and grow the domestic portfolio of its sovereign wealth fund, the Qatar Investment Authority. This is not a new $60 billion fund; it is a more focused owner for local assets, intended to help companies expand, improve their governance, deepen local capital markets and bring in outside capital and expertise. The announcement came with a five-year pipeline of more than $60 billion in projects and investment opportunities: about $38.5 billion in new infrastructure, including public-private partnerships, and an expected $22.5 billion of private investment in real estate and hospitality. Qatar is betting that a more active domestic investment arm can turn state-built assets into a bigger role for private business and a more diversified economy.
