Qatar to Build First EV Plant With Watt Electric Vehicle Company, Targeting 2028 Output

Wednesday, August 19, 2026

Qatar is set to build its first electric vehicle manufacturing plant through a partnership between JTA International Investment Holding and British startup Watt Electric Vehicle Company. The factory is expected to begin production in 2028 and initially make a passenger car and a delivery van designed for Qatar’s hot climate, with an early target of about 5,000 vehicles a year. The project marks a step in Qatar’s push to diversify its economy and join neighbors such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE in developing a domestic EV industry, while also aiming to create local manufacturing skills and supply chains.
