Samsung has narrowly avoided a strike after agreeing to larger bonuses for some workers, but the move has intensified a broader fight over who should benefit from the company’s windfall from the AI boom. According to Bloomberg, the payout has pleased employees in one part of the business while leaving others frustrated that they will not receive the same rewards.
The dispute centered on Samsung’s semiconductor workers, who argued that the company should share more of the profits generated by surging demand for AI chips. As reported by Bloomberg, talks with the labor union had nearly collapsed before a government-mediated deal helped avert an immediate walkout. The agreement came after workers pressed for a formal profit-sharing arrangement tied to operating profit, while Samsung had offered a lower figure.

Bloomberg reported that it has fed into a wider debate in South Korea over how to distribute the gains from artificial intelligence, especially as technology companies post large profits while workers in other parts of the economy worry about unequal access to those gains. At Samsung, that tension is visible inside the workforce.
