Universal Music and ElevenLabs build a licensed AI remix platform
Universal Music Group and ElevenLabs are developing a fan-facing AI platform that will let people remix, mash up, and make new interpretations of songs from participating artists and songwriters. The multiyear deal is a license agreement, meaning the service is intended to use music with permission; the companies say participating creators will share in the value it generates. That is the real point of the project: AI can make music quickly, but using familiar songs as creative material requires a workable system for consent, rights, and payment. For Universal, the platform could turn some fan-made music into a managed product; for ElevenLabs, it is its first agreement with a major label and will sit separately from its existing music tools.
