Waymo suspends robotaxi service in five cities over flood and freeway navigation risks
Waymo has temporarily suspended parts of its robotaxi service in several U.S. cities as it works to prevent its self-driving vehicles from attempting to enter flooded roads, while also pausing freeway access in some markets, according to reporting from Bloomberg and TechCrunch.
The move affects service in five cities, with Atlanta and San Antonio among the latest locations added to the pause. Waymo’s decision follows reports that some of its autonomous vehicles had continued toward flooded streets, raising safety concerns during severe weather. The company has been trying to update its systems to better recognize and avoid flood conditions, Bloomberg reported.
