AI’s business payoff is still catching up, Atlantic CEO says
AI may be advancing faster than the business case is catching up, according to Atlantic CEO Nicholas Thompson. Speaking to Bloomberg, Thompson said his company is already using the technology for practical work, including marketing analysis and finding patterns in search data—uses that can save time and improve decisions before they remake an industry. But he distinguished those immediate gains from the broader economic transformation often promised by the AI boom, arguing that adoption, revenue, and durable business models are moving more slowly than the tools’ capabilities. That leaves media companies in a double bind: AI can help them operate more effectively while creating distinct risks for their business.
