Alstom wins €460m order to expand Riyadh Metro fleet

Alstom has signed a roughly €460 million contract with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City to add driverless trains to Riyadh Metro’s Lines 3, 4 and 6. Rather than build new routes, the order adds vehicles to corridors already in service and fits them into the existing network. That integration matters in a driverless system: its train-control technology must keep more trains moving safely at closer intervals, allowing the new fleet to raise capacity and reduce waiting times. Alstom will also maintain the vehicles under its current contract for the three lines, extending its role in a six-line metro that began passenger service in late 2024.
