DoorDash agrees to buy Instacart for $17 billion
DoorDash has agreed to acquire Instacart in a cash-and-stock deal that values the grocery-delivery company at about $17 billion, or $65 a share. The transaction would join DoorDash’s large network of couriers and restaurant orders with Instacart’s grocery relationships and the software supermarkets use for online shopping, order fulfillment, and advertising. That matters because grocery delivery is more demanding than delivering a meal: retailers need accurate inventory, careful handling of perishables, and ways to earn advertising revenue from brands. DoorDash says it plans to keep the Instacart app and brand, but the deal is not complete; it still needs shareholder and regulatory approval and is expected to close in late 2027 or early 2028.
