DP World bets Gulf freight will keep finding ways around Hormuz

DP World is putting more money into trucking and overland logistics while developing routes that reduce cargo’s dependence on the Strait of Hormuz. The shift began with shipping disruption during the war, but the company is making a longer-term bet: cargo owners may keep favoring alternatives to a narrow and vulnerable waterway even after immediate conditions ease. For a port operator, that means competing not only to receive ships and handle containers, but also to control the inland links that move goods to market. If that bet proves right, a temporary disruption could leave a lasting mark on where freight, investment, and commercial activity flow across the Gulf.
