Eurozone unemployment holds at 6.3% in June, slightly above forecasts

Eurozone unemployment came in at 6.3% in June, slightly above the rate expected by analysts and unchanged from May after a revision, according to Eurostat. The data suggest that the labor market is holding up overall but still showing some softness even as broader economic indicators, including GDP and purchasing managers’ surveys, point to improving growth momentum. Eurostat estimated that 11.13 million people were unemployed in the euro area, while the wider EU jobless rate was 6.0%. The figures matter because they indicate that the region’s recovery remains uneven, with labor-market conditions not improving as quickly as some other signs of economic strength.
