Google introduces Googlebook laptops built around Gemini

Google has opened preorders for the first Googlebook laptops, a new premium category made by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo and due in U.S. stores on October 4. Prices run from $899 to $1,299, placing them well above the inexpensive, browser-first Chromebooks that made Google a fixture in schools. A Googlebook combines Android’s app ecosystem with ChromeOS’s desktop and browser strengths, then puts Gemini at the center: users can ask it to work with what is on screen, create personalized widgets, and move tasks and files more easily between the laptop and an Android phone. The launch is Google’s bet that built-in AI can become a reason to buy a new laptop, rather than just another feature available on any PC.
