Amazon blocks Meta’s Muse from shopping on its site

Amazon has stopped Meta’s new Muse AI agent from making purchases on Amazon after Meta declined a request to keep the retailer out of the service. Muse is designed to do more than recommend products: it can browse the web and carry out steps such as shopping for a user. Amazon says the agent accessed its site without properly identifying itself and raised concerns about the handling of customer login details; Meta says Muse cannot see users’ passwords or payment information, which is held in secure storage. The dispute shows the practical obstacle facing AI-assisted shopping: even when a customer wants an agent to act for them, the website being asked to serve that customer can still decide whether to allow the agent in.
