Investigator says AI is making fake recruiters harder to spot
Sunday, October 4, 2026
Fraud investigator Jay Jones told Bloomberg that AI is helping scammers make fake recruiters and job listings look far more believable. The basic scam is not new: someone poses as an employer, builds enough trust to move a candidate along, then asks for money, bank details, or identity documents. AI can make the deception more polished by producing convincing messages and materials that may no longer give themselves away through obvious errors. The practical rule for job seekers is to verify an opening through the employer’s real website or a contact method found independently—and never pay to get a job or hand over sensitive details before a genuine hiring process.
