Oman has joined the Global Dialogue on AI Governance and the World Summit on the Information Society, marking a significant step in its active participation in international technology policy discussions and reinforcing its commitment to ethical, transparent, and secure AI use. Led by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), this move aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and the National Program for Artificial Intelligence, which aim to embed AI governance as a core component of the nation’s economic strategy while ensuring human rights and data privacy are protected. UNESCO has affirmed that Oman is well-positioned to lead in ethical AI governance, citing its strong institutional and legislative foundations, including dedicated policies for AI ethics and data privacy. This growing involvement signals Oman’s desire to balance innovation with responsibility, influencing both government and private sector practices and contributing to global efforts to establish fair, accountable, and sustainable AI frameworks.
