OpenAI launches reusable cloud environments for Codex
Thursday, October 1, 2026
OpenAI has added Cloud Environments to Codex, its AI coding agent, so a developer or team can prepare a project’s repositories, tools, dependencies, and access rules once rather than rebuild that setup for every job. New tasks start from the approved template but run in their own isolated workspaces, and can continue in the cloud while people check in or resume them from desktop, web, or mobile. The practical shift is from repeatedly recreating task sandboxes to a reusable team setup: less time configuring machines, easier parallel work, and a common starting point with specified access rules—though developers still need to review its code and test results.
