OpenAI launches Dots, an always-on ChatGPT assistant

OpenAI used DevDay to introduce Dots, agents designed not just to answer prompts but to keep working between conversations. A user gives one a goal and chooses the apps it may access; the assistant uses a dedicated cloud computer to investigate, prepare work, and return for decisions that need human judgment. It can be reached through ChatGPT, Slack, and Microsoft Teams, while text-message support is planned; enterprises can also decide who gets access and what a Dot can do. Dots are OpenAI’s attempt to turn ChatGPT from a tool people consult into a persistent coworker—useful for recurring work, but dependent on careful permissions.
