Six bidders advance for Qassim airport’s 30-year PPP

Saudi Arabia has shortlisted six companies and consortia for the public-private partnership to redevelop and run Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Qassim. This is not a contract award: the finalists will compete to become the private partner for a 30-year deal that includes construction. Rather than simply hire a contractor to build facilities, the state is asking one partner to design and finance the upgrade, build it, operate and maintain it, and transfer it under the project’s agreed structure. That puts the same bidder on the hook for both delivering the airport and keeping it running well, making the selection an important next step in bringing private capital and operating expertise into Saudi regional airports.
