SpaceX Plans $100 Billion Starship Launch Complex on Louisiana Coast
SpaceX has announced plans to build a $100 billion Starship launch complex on Louisiana’s southern coast, a major expansion of its rocket operations. The site, called Starbase, Louisiana, will cover about 125,000 acres in Vermilion Parish near Pecan Island and is intended to support high-frequency launches of the company’s giant Starship rocket. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the first launch targeted for 2029, and the facility is expected to include multiple launch complexes, propellant production, power generation, processing facilities and housing. The project matters because Starship is central to SpaceX’s future plans, including satellite deployment and deep-space missions, and the new site would significantly increase the company’s launch capacity.
