Trump backs curbs on diesel exports as US prices hit records

President Donald Trump said he has pushed for a ban on U.S. diesel exports, while his administration studies whether a full or partial restriction would work; no measure has been adopted. The appeal is straightforward: keep more fuel at home as record diesel prices raise costs for truckers and farmers and feed into the price of moving food and goods. But refineries produce diesel alongside gasoline and other fuels, and analysts as well as the energy secretary warn that trapping diesel in the country could lead refiners to cut output once storage fills. That could briefly ease diesel prices while tightening supplies of gasoline and other products, and deepen the shortage overseas.
