Suez Canal’s August revenue jumps 57% as traffic recovers

August revenue at the Suez Canal rose 56.7% from a year earlier to $567.1 million, as 1,358 ships used the waterway—27% more than in August 2025. Their combined net tonnage, a measure used to gauge the size of ships passing through, grew even faster, rising 51.1% to 68.3 million tons. That matters because the canal earns most of its income from transit fees, so more ships and larger vessels translate directly into revenue. The figures are a tangible sign of continued recovery on the shortcut between Asia and Europe, though the sharp percentage gain also reflects comparison with lower revenue a year earlier.
