Anthropic commits $11.6 billion to Akamai’s cloud

Anthropic has agreed to buy $11.6 billion of cloud infrastructure from Akamai over seven years, a commitment that could climb to roughly $20 billion if it orders more capacity. Unlike AI infrastructure deals focused mainly on GPUs, this one centers on CPUs: general-purpose computing used to run code and online services after a model is built. The headline figure is not guaranteed revenue, since Akamai must meet delivery and service-availability requirements and either side can end the agreement in certain circumstances. In an unusual incentive, Akamai has also given Anthropic rights that could translate into a stake of up to 5% in the company as Anthropic’s spending rises.
