Anthropic pledges at least 5% of its shares to a public-benefit fund
Anthropic says it will place at least 5% of its shares in a new public-benefit fund, subject to shareholder approval. This is not a cash donation today: the fund would own equity in the AI company, so its resources could grow if Anthropic becomes more valuable. The company says the fund could make large grants to nonprofits or direct payments to particular groups, including people affected by AI-driven disruption in the labor market. Anthropic has not yet set out the fund’s governance or the valuation milestones that could expand its stake, but the proposal is an effort to tie a growing share of the company’s future wealth to dealing with AI’s broader effects.
