Apple sets Oct. 28 event; reports point to first touchscreen MacBook

Apple has scheduled an October 28 launch in Los Angeles, called “Pro and tell.” Bloomberg reports that the centerpiece will be a touchscreen MacBook Pro, which would be Apple’s first Mac designed for direct finger input. That would reverse a long-standing product boundary: Apple has kept touch interaction on the iPad while positioning the Mac around its keyboard, trackpad, and desktop software. The same reports point to a lower-cost MacBook Pro, an updated iMac, and a sharper-screen iPad mini, but Apple has confirmed only the event—not its lineup or pricing.
