DeepSeek releases tools to make Huawei AI chips easier to use

Thursday, October 1, 2026

DeepSeek has open-sourced programming tools it built with Huawei for the company’s Ascend AI chips. The release includes software for the heavy math and chip-to-chip communication behind training and running AI models, plus TileLang, a higher-level way of writing that code. That matters because Nvidia’s lead comes not only from its hardware but from CUDA, the deeply established software environment developers use to get AI work onto its chips. By making these building blocks freely available, DeepSeek and Huawei are trying to make Ascend less difficult and costly for Chinese developers to adopt, though the release alone does not erase Nvidia’s far larger software ecosystem.
