EU prepares new curbs on Chinese chemicals, furniture and machinery
The European Union is preparing another round of limits on Chinese imports, with chemicals, furniture and machinery among the sectors under discussion, according to people familiar with the plans. The measures could be presented as early as the first quarter of 2027 and may set volume caps or add tariffs once imports pass a threshold. In practical terms, Brussels is considering a way to give European producers more room against cheaper or rapidly rising imports without shutting the market entirely. Nothing has been finalized, but the move would extend the EU’s effort to use trade policy more actively in industries where it sees competitive pressure from China.
