Facebook tests opening straight into Reels

Meta is testing a different front door for Facebook in India and Indonesia: for some users, opening the app now leads straight to a full-screen, vertically scrolling stream of recommended Reels—Facebook’s short videos—rather than the familiar mixed feed of friends’ posts, groups, photos and links. The company is not removing that older experience: participants can opt out, and the classic feed remains a second tab. The point of the test is bigger than a navigation tweak. It asks whether Facebook can make video discovery, instead of checking updates from people and communities, the default reason users open the app. That could make Facebook feel more like an entertainment app while giving Meta a clearer place to concentrate viewing time and creators’ attention.
