FBI links record Binance theft to North Korean hackers
The FBI said North Korean cyber actors were behind the theft of more than $6 billion in digital assets from Binance on October 29, an attack widely described as the largest crypto heist on record. It calls the activity TraderTraitor—a label for a North Korean hacking operation—and says the attackers have been converting much of the stolen value into Ether before moving it through decentralized finance and instant-swap services designed to make the trail harder to follow. The attribution matters because it gives exchanges, blockchain-analysis firms, and other crypto services a list of suspect addresses to screen and block, turning an investigation into a chance to slow the laundering even if it does not guarantee the funds can be recovered.
