Former Nvidia leader says robotics still needs its basic building blocks

Amulya Vishwanath, who spent seven years leading product marketing for Nvidia’s robotics platforms and now runs early-stage investor Techable VC, argues that robotics is still assembling its basic kit rather than nearing a ChatGPT-style leap. Her point is that a powerful general AI model can improve a robot’s decision-making, but it cannot by itself solve the physical side: reliable motors and hands, software that connects them, and safety standards for real-world use. That pushes back on the idea that one foundation model—a broadly trained AI system adapted to many tasks—will soon make today’s specialized robotics obsolete. If she is right, the pace of physical AI will depend as much on dependable hardware and shared standards as on faster model releases.
