Google opens early access to Google Home for outside AI agents

Google is giving outside AI assistants a new route into the home. Its early-access Google Home MCP server uses the Model Context Protocol, a common way for AI tools to connect with external services, so an agent such as Claude or ChatGPT can work with a user’s Google Home setup rather than merely answer questions. That could mean controlling connected devices, checking a camera’s generated summary, or using smart-home information in a normal conversation. The change turns Google Home from a voice-assistant destination into infrastructure other AI products can use—while making permissions and safeguards much more important when an assistant can act inside a home.
