Meta plans non-voting stock to fund its AI buildout
Meta plans to create a new class of stock that gives investors an economic stake in the company but no say in corporate votes. It will first distribute the shares to current investors, effectively creating a tradable currency that Meta can later sell, use in acquisitions, or offer to employees. That matters because the company is spending heavily on the chips and data centers behind its AI push: issuing ordinary voting shares could eventually weaken Mark Zuckerberg’s control, while non-voting shares would not. The move does not itself raise cash, but it gives Meta a way to finance a more expensive AI strategy without changing who controls the company.
