Microsoft launches an AI model built to choose, not write

Microsoft has added Microsoft-Decision-1 to Foundry, its platform for building and deploying AI applications. It is not a chatbot: a developer gives it text or data and a bounded question—such as which team should receive a support ticket, whether content breaks a rule, or which task comes first—and it returns a selected option or score with probabilities instead of prose. The appeal is that software can use that fixed-format result directly to route work or trigger the next step, rather than calling a larger text-generating model for every small judgment. That could make AI workflows faster and more predictable, but the model’s usefulness still depends on how carefully companies define the choices, thresholds, and human review around consequential decisions.
