NYT: Inspur subsidiary kept Nvidia’s advanced AI chips flowing to Chinese firms

The New York Times reports that Aivres, a U.S.-based subsidiary of Chinese server maker Inspur, continued buying and exporting Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips to serve Chinese AI firms after Washington placed Inspur on a trade blacklist. The blacklist is meant to limit a named company’s access to American technology by requiring export licenses that are typically difficult to obtain. Yet the report shows the practical challenge of policing a corporate group with separately incorporated units and an international supply chain: hardware can be sold to an affiliate or installed abroad while its computing power serves customers in China. That matters because chip controls now depend not only on where a processor is shipped, but also on who ultimately gets to use it.
