Tesla lines up $30 billion for its shift from cars to AI and robots
Wednesday, September 30, 2026
Tesla has arranged $30 billion in borrowing capacity: a $20 billion loan that can be drawn later, plus $10 billion in revolving credit lines that work more like a corporate credit card. The company says it does not expect to use the facilities this year, so the move is less about plugging an immediate cash gap than keeping financing ready as spending rises. Tesla has planned at least $25 billion of capital investment this year for the computing, factories and production equipment behind its Cybercab robotaxi, Optimus humanoid robot and other projects. The credit package is a tangible sign of how much capital Tesla’s strategy may require as it tries to turn ambitious AI and robotics products into businesses at scale.
