Reddit Sues Anthropic in State Court Over Alleged Unauthorized Data Scraping
Tuesday, July 28, 2026
Reddit is pressing ahead with its lawsuit against Anthropic in California state court, accusing the AI company of violating Reddit’s user agreement and scraping Reddit content to train its Claude chatbot. The dispute matters because Reddit says Anthropic continued accessing its servers even after being told to stop, with the company alleging more than 100,000 bot requests and unauthorized use of user data. A federal judge has already sent the case back to state court, clearing the way for Reddit to pursue claims including breach of contract and related state-law allegations.
