Tech coalition warns cyber defenses have only months to catch up

OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and more than 100 other organizations have issued an open letter arguing that companies and governments have only months—not years—to prepare for a rise in AI-enabled cyberattacks. Their concern is not that AI creates a wholly new kind of hacking, but that it can help attackers find old software flaws, write malicious code and coordinate attacks faster and more cheaply, putting hospitals, water systems and the infrastructure behind the internet at greater risk. The coalition is asking leaders to treat cyber defense as an immediate priority: fix the most dangerous weaknesses, tighten access controls, and give under-resourced critical-infrastructure operators AI tools, funding and training. It is a forecast from firms building these technologies, rather than proof of a coming wave—but its practical message is that basic security gaps have become more urgent.
