X and World Federation of Advertisers settle lawsuit over alleged ad boycott coordination
Thursday, July 30, 2026
X and the World Federation of Advertisers have settled their lawsuit over X’s claim that advertisers coordinated through the group’s now-defunct GARM initiative to withhold ad spending from the platform. Reuters said the settlement marks a reset in relations, and both sides said they share support for freedom of speech. The dispute had centered on X’s allegation that the boycott cost it billions of dollars, while the WFA said GARM’s brand-safety standards were voluntary and that it had permanently ended the initiative in 2024. A federal judge had already ruled that X failed to show antitrust harm, and the companies did not disclose any financial terms or wrongdoing in the settlement.
