Akamai turns Anthropic’s computing demand into an $11.6 billion bet

Anthropic, the company behind Claude, has agreed to buy $11.6 billion of cloud computing from Akamai over seven years. Akamai will provide capacity for Anthropic’s growing CPU workloads—general-purpose computing used to run and operate AI services at scale. The commitment can grow by another $9 billion, and Akamai received a warrant that could ultimately give it about a 5% stake in Anthropic; roughly 2% is tied to the initial deal, while the rest depends on an expansion. The structure gives Anthropic long-term capacity while giving Akamai a potential ownership stake that grows if the relationship expands.
