Apple explores a screenless fitness band to challenge Whoop
Wednesday, September 23, 2026
Apple is building early prototypes of a screenless health and fitness band modeled on the simpler wrist trackers sold by Whoop, according to Bloomberg. Rather than acting like a tiny phone, the device would concentrate on collecting body data such as heart-rate and activity information, leaving people to review it elsewhere instead of on their wrist. That would give Apple a way to serve people who want continuous health tracking without the alerts, apps, and conspicuous screen of an Apple Watch. But this is an internal technology investigation, not a product announcement: Apple has not decided to release it, and any launch would not be expected before 2028.
