Egypt plans AI data center costing up to $1 billion using Nvidia technology

Egypt is planning its first large-scale data center built specifically for AI, a project that could eventually draw as much as $1 billion and use Nvidia computing systems. Rather than construct the full 200-megawatt site at once—a measure of the electricity available to power the facility—it will start with a 20-megawatt, $200 million phase designed to take three years. Vodafone Business, Elsewedy Electric, and Cassava Technologies, an Nvidia partner in Africa, will build the initial phase. The important shift is that Egypt is backing the physical layer of AI: a data center packed with specialized processors that can train and run models, not just software and digital services. Reaching 200 megawatts would create far more in-country capacity for those workloads, but reliable power will be central to whether the project can fully scale.
