Europe’s gas price tops €90 as Gulf disruptions tighten supply

Europe’s benchmark natural-gas price rose above €90 per megawatt-hour for the first time since 2022, as disruptions to Gulf exports unsettled the market. The immediate concern is liquefied natural gas, or LNG: gas cooled into a liquid so it can be shipped by sea, which forms a key part of Europe’s imported supply. This is a wholesale market price, not an immediate change in household bills, but it shows how disruptions in a major exporting region can quickly raise energy costs for European utilities and businesses.
