OpenAI reportedly looks to buy Google’s AI chips

OpenAI is reportedly planning to buy Google’s specialized AI processors, adding a new source of computing power as it builds and runs increasingly demanding models. These chips, called TPUs, are designed for the huge calculations behind AI training and responses, and could give the ChatGPT maker another option alongside Nvidia’s widely used hardware. The move would be notable because OpenAI and Google compete in consumer AI, yet could still become supplier and customer in the infrastructure layer beneath it. The size, price, timing, and final structure of any deal remain unclear, and neither company has publicly confirmed it—so this is a reported expansion of OpenAI’s options, not evidence that it is replacing Nvidia.
