OpenAI’s Dots turns ChatGPT into an always-working assistant
OpenAI has introduced Dots, a new kind of AI assistant designed to keep pursuing a user’s goals after the chat ends. Rather than simply answering a prompt, a Dot runs on its own cloud computer and can follow work across connected apps and services, such as keeping a project moving or preparing a task for review. Users set the goal, connect the relevant services, and define what the agent may do; OpenAI says the rollout includes controls over access and approvals. Dots is initially reaching customers on OpenAI’s higher-end plans, and its arrival alongside a new $500-a-month tier—while the existing $200 plan gets lower usage limits—underscores the business challenge behind always-on agents: they consume far more computing power than an ordinary chatbot exchange.
