PIF grows its team while becoming more selective abroad
Friday, October 2, 2026
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund ended 2025 with 3,321 employees, a scale that reflects its evolution from a conventional sovereign investor into a hands-on builder and manager of companies. But reports say it is dialing back some external investment activity and reserving international capital for fewer, larger opportunities. That fits its 2026–30 strategy, which shifts the emphasis from rapid asset-building to stronger risk-adjusted returns and capital recycling: selling, listing, or bringing private investors into mature holdings so the money can be deployed again. The change is not a retreat from global markets, but a more selective model in which PIF wants its existing portfolio to help finance future growth.
